ASI was founded by its current CEO, Christopher Duff, in 1976, in Johannesburg, South Africa. The company's brief was to produce standard application software packages for the manufacturing sector. Over the following decade its stature and reputation grew steadily, and in 1984 it developed an accounting and distribution package for ICL.
Using this knowledge and experience, a totally integrated manufacturing, accounting and distribution software package was developed. Known as IMPACT, it was first installed in 1986 in Johannesburg.
Over the next 6 years new distribution centres in Vancouver, Los Angeles and the UK were opened, and over 1000 IMPACT sites were installed worldwide. In 1992, Christopher Duff came back to the UK to take charge of European operations, leaving the South African operation in the hands of his younger brother. Two years later Christopher sold his shares in the South African company in order to concentrate fully on Europe, and the companies became separate entities.
In 1998, the fifth generation of IMPACT was replaced by AIM-IV, the result of thousands of man-hours of effort in the UK and Canada. At this time there were over 5000 installations worldwide of IMPACT and AIM. At about the same time ASI began work on a new concept which would harness the awesome power of the Internet to deliver AIM to customers in a hassle-free, cost-effective manner.
In 2000, pointASP was launched using web browser technology and Citrix® software to deliver a third-generation version of AIM over a standard dialup internet connection.
